COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES

Here are some of the projects our class worked on last year. Our final total of the year was over $300.00!

We will be looking at new projects once the year gets started.

Hurrican Relief Efforts

In light of recent events involving Hurricane Katrina our class has decided to dedicate the monies raised from this year's pop can drive to help hurricane survivors. As of the first October our calss had raised over $170.00!

As many of you know, one of the children in our class has an aunt, uncle and cousins who lost their home and all of their belongings in the flood. When we learned that this family was interested in purchasing some new books for their children we were more than happy to help. After talking with the class we decided to take $100.00 from the money we had collected to use toward the purchase of new books. The books should be arriving any day and we can't wait to package them up and deliver them!

Thank you for all of your help with this project! The children are learning so much about what it means to help others and I have been so touched by their generosity. I can't tell you how many children have brought in their tooth fairy money! Please keep those pop cans (and loose teeth) coming!

Africa Project

I am still interested in our original project in Africa. Perhaps in January when we are studying Africa we could set a goal to raise at least $50.00 to work with ADRA (Adventist Development and Relief Agency) to help send one child to school and plant a vegetable garden in Somalia. We will be talking more about this project after Christmas.

OTHER PROJECTS

Other classes in our school are also involved in service projects. These include a canned food drive for the Oregon Food Bank and collecting stuffed animals for the Washington County Officer Buddy Bear program. Be watching the Thursday Note for these and other ways you and your family can help our comunity.

If you have an idea for a community service project for our class please talk with me. I am always on the look out for new ideas.
